Meet DeAndre’ Knoxson

DeAndre’ Knoxson is a lifelong resident of Texas City and proudly serves as City Commissioner for District 1, first elected in 2022. He is committed to building a stronger, more inclusive, and more connected community.

Leadership, to DeAndre’, means showing up, listening, and taking action. His approach to service is grounded in accountability, accessibility, and respect for every resident’s voice. He works to ensure that community concerns are not only heard, but followed through with real effort and real results.

DeAndre’ is a product of Texas City ISD and is proud to have continued his education locally. He earned two Associate degrees from College of the Mainland and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Service Leadership from the University of Houston Clear Lake, reflecting his long-term commitment to learning and serving effectively. While attending College of the Mainland, he also served as a mentor with Minority Men for Excellence (MM4E), supporting and encouraging young men in their academic and personal growth.

Outside of public service, DeAndre’ works as a process operator at the local refinery. This experience keeps him closely connected to the realities of working families and gives him a practical understanding of the economic issues facing the community.

DeAndre’ currently serves on the Texas City Audit Committee, serves on the Texas City Juneteenth Committee, and previously served as Vice President of the Texas City Housing Authority. Growing up in public housing gave DeAndre’ a deep understanding of the challenges many families face, which shaped his commitment to service and informed his work with the Housing Authority.

DeAndre’ has demonstrated his commitment to education by personally funding scholarships for local students for more than a decade, including the “Sting to Sting” scholarship for Texas City High School students and the “Sting to Cougar” scholarship for La Marque High School students.

He is also a proud husband and father, which deepens his commitment to building a strong, safe, and thriving community for future generations.

DeAndre’ has been recognized for his leadership and service, including being named a recipient of Galveston County’s 40 Under 40 award and receiving the College of the Mainland’s Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award of Righteousness. These honors reflect the values that guide his work: integrity, service, and dedication to others.

He believes that when leadership is present, engaged, and grounded in service, communities thrive. DeAndre’ remains committed to being a steady, reliable voice for District 1 and to working every day toward progress that benefits everyone.

Priorities

My Priorities for District 1

I believe effective leadership starts with showing up, listening, and taking action. These priorities guide my work for District 1 and reflect the issues I hear most often from residents.

Because of your feedback, we identified problem areas and took meaningful action. That work has included targeted cleanup efforts, ditch repairs to improve drainage, and enhanced lighting to strengthen neighborhood safety. These efforts are ongoing and will continue. Looking ahead, I also plan to introduce new initiatives shaped directly by the feedback I continue to receive from you. Serving as your Commissioner is not just about listening. It is about responding and taking action on the issues that matter most to our community. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me and for allowing me to serve. I look forward to continuing this work together over the next two years.

Infrastructure, Roads, and Lighting

Safe and reliable infrastructure is essential to strong neighborhoods. Over the past year, I launched an ongoing initiative to improve street lighting across District 1 by identifying more than 170 streetlights that were out and working directly with Texas-New Mexico Power to get them addressed. I continue to advocate for better road conditions, improved lighting, and long-term infrastructure investment throughout the district.

Neighborhood Improvement

Clean and well-maintained neighborhoods help build pride and improve quality of life. I regularly canvas District 1 to identify concerns such as overgrown properties, debris, and inoperable vehicles, then work with the appropriate departments to help bring properties back into compliance. My focus is on strengthening neighborhoods while supporting residents in keeping our community safe and welcoming.

Community Development and Partnerships

I have worked with several nonprofit organizations across our community to support community development, expand opportunities for youth, and strengthen neighborhoods throughout District 1. Strong partnerships allow us to reach more families and create a greater positive impact.

Communication with Residents

Representation means staying connected. I prioritize open communication by being accessible, listening to concerns, and providing updates. Whether through community events, neighborhood outreach, or direct conversations, I believe residents deserve a commissioner who is present, responsive, and engaged.
